Every young, inspired artist dreams of becoming a recognized patron in their art community. Unfortunately, the bar to attain that status is very high. So, the young artist matures and learns to lower their ambitions. They reward themselves at each landmark:

·         Complete first painting

·         Receive praise from friends, family, colleagues

·         Make first sale at an art show

·         Make first sale online

·         Receive recognition at an art gallery

For many artists, this is the highest level that they can achieve. If you can make a living off your artwork, consider yourself in the top 10%.

I have been painting for over 50 years, and have sold a lot of artwork, but nothing is more satisfying than seeing my work in a museum or a restaurant for the public to see.

This blog will discuss how to get your artwork in stores and restaurants.

Visit restaurants or stores

Find a local store and study the existing artwork on the walls. If the artwork matches your style, take note and move on to the next step.

Prepare a digital portfolio

Provide an Instagram or TikTok to show your artwork to present to the owner or the manager of the establishment.

Speak to the owner

Visit the store during the slowest hours. Stay away between 11-1 (lunch hours) or 6-8 (Dinner hours), which are peak hours. Speak to the manager.

Tell them:

·         Your name

·         Previous school training

·         Years of art experience

·         Craft of artwork

Provide information

·         Name

·         Phone number

·         Instagram / TikTok / Facebook account

·         Website (if applicable)

Invite them to:

·         Any upcoming art festivals you are participating in.

·         Any art galleries where your work will be featured.

Network with art clients.

In my years of experience, I have met people all over the world, and people have connections. If someone loves your work, they will refer it to a friend or colleague who owns a business. Buildings and furnishings are being built every year, so there’s an opportunity for your work to be placed on a wall.

Final note

Networking is key. Maintain a good relationship with your clients and develop a good reputation in your community. It may take years to build a brand, but no one said success comes easy. So, make the effort count and go for it!
