I can name over 10 problems I have with today’s vehicles. Let me start with the cheap materials used to make them and the inflated manufacturer’s suggested retail prices.

However, it gets worse: Customers are signing up for 6–8-year loans with car dealerships!

So, in 8 years of loan payments, you will face:

·         Sensor malfunctions

·         Transmission hesitations

·         Software communication problems

Note: Do not forget the common wear and tear (brakes, oil changes, tires, etc.) you must deal with as you pay off your loan.

Nevertheless, let’s travel back in time and use our paintbrush to recreate a car built for endurance with some elegance and class…at an affordable price.

This blog will cover over 12 popular vehicles you can paint for your watercolor ideas.

Jaguar XK 120 series

Era: Late 1940s

Popular vehicle during the post-war era. People consider it a luxury sports car that is still a classic.

Aston Martin MK 3 Series

Era: Late 1950s

Imagine owning a luxury vehicle with 162 horsepower and going from 0 to 60 mph in under 10 seconds. Okay, that may not be impressive today, but I guarantee your great-grandfather romanticized this car back in his day.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce series

Era: Late 1950s

I think of old-school popular British TV shows when I see this car. I wonder if one appeared in the Austin Powers movies.

Ferrari 308 GTB

Era: 1980s

I had a gym teacher who drove this car. I know old habits die hard because I think his first wife met him and left him while he still owned this car before I graduated in 2001.

Bentley Continental SuperSport series

Era: Early 2000s

I have seen this car in so many James Bond and action films. This is the premier luxury car in Europe. It’s sleek and elegant, and it can also go over 200 mph. That’s a good way to pile up traffic tickets!

Ford GT40

Era: 1960s

This is a classic motorsport car. I first saw this vehicle in highlight reels on basic TV (before streaming), and I always wanted one until I discovered the retail price.

Nope!

A Toyota Corolla works fine for me.

Jeep Cherokee XJ Series

Era: Early 1980s – late 1990s

You are not a Jeep owner until you own a Jeep Cherokee. I heard this name so much that I think Jeeps were born with the Cherokee tribes. A Jeep works well in the foreground of a nature-inspired landscape piece.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Era: 1990s

This vehicle was very popular in the late 1990’s. Very durable and can travel in any terrain. See, this vehicle can last for years; all you need is an oil change every six months.

Land Rover Range

Era: 1990s

This vehicle’s reputation was that it was durable and added status. It had everything, and the sad part is that a Land Rover can outlast some vehicles that are made today. Your GPS during that time was a map and a teenage clerk working at a gas station. They didn’t malfunction whenever it stormed either.

Cadillac Escalade Exterior

Era: 1990s

You could not visit any urban area in America and not see someone driving this vehicle. They were everywhere. It was luxurious, and it met the status quo in most black neighborhoods. The reason why you don’t see them so much now is that it costs almost $120 now to fill them up.

Volkswagen beetle

Era: 1990s

People can identify this vehicle when they see it, and it was popular on college campuses, political rallies, and at the beach.

Chrysler Minivan

Era: 1980s

This vehicle changed the way Americans travelled across the US. It was spacious, durable, and affordable. I think of an 80s classic movie like National Lampoon’s Vacation. I don’t see too many now on the highway.

Artists often think that to create and sell a painting of a car, you must come up with the most original and creative ideas. That’s not true. You can illustrate a simple vintage car driving on a road or sitting in a driveway.

Why?

Because your painting might evoke an emotion in a customer. We all, at some point in our lives, have been fascinated with a sports car, so when you try an idea, emphasize the background, too. For example:

·         A Jeep in the woods

·         A GT40 on a sports track

·         A luxury SVU next to a street curb

These ideas will certainly catch a customer’s eye.

So, start painting today.
